MISSION STATEMENT

Homer High School is committed to providing an educational program, which allows students to obtain knowledge, develop salable skills, encourage positive attitudes, and acquire social skills necessary to be productive members in society.

PHILOSOPHY

Homer High School is dedicated to ideals of education that strive to meet the needs of today’s student population. The administrators and faculty strive to prepare young adults for healthy, harmonious living; for responsible participating citizenship; for successful pursuit of higher education; and/or for productive work in satisfying careers.

Attainment of these goals is dependent upon concerted, cooperative effort of the home, and the school, and the community; and upon maximum intellectual, social, psychological, emotional, and physical growth of young people. Cognizant of these needs and goals, Homer High School directs its effort toward stimulating youth to deliberate exercise of reason, observation, and understanding; to wise use of leisure time; and to expansion of those ideals, which develop an appreciation of the aesthetic.

Recognition and wise use of human resources are vital for citizenship in democracy. Educators at Homer High School accept the challenge of developing in communication skills – listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking – necessary for making sound choices. Through these skills, students learn to accept responsibility, which along with a sense of individual worth, is essential for solid citizenship.

By providing an academically sound curriculum, Homer High School serves as a flexible base from which each individual can, with proper guidance, grow toward fulfillment of unique personal goals. Through precept and example, Homer High School tries to help students develop standards and attitudes that reflect the value of every human being. Toward that end, the school hopes to lead each student as an informed, disciplined, responsible member of an ever – changing and increasingly technological society.
